What Virginia Actually Did!
Presented by Steve Andreas

B1

Time:   August 4, Monday, 9 am - 12 pm

Presentation Description

The Satir Growth Model provides a useful general orientation, but not what to actually do to help people grow and change. What are the specific behaviors that Virginia used to transform resistance and ideas, gain trust, make contact, build self-worth, integrate new behaviors and attitudes, etc.? In this session, a wide variety of very specific patterns and behaviors, both verbal and nonverbal, conscious and unconscious, will be illustrated by short video clips of Virginia, providing an experiential basis for questions, discussion, and demonstration.

Objectives:

  • How to use personal expressiveness and physical contact to elicit useful states in clients.

  • How to introduce new alternative behavioral choices, test them and adjust them, and then link them to future events, so that they occur naturally and spontaneously.

  • How to use positive intent, and a solution-oriented focus on the desired future to bypass the hurts and resentments of the past, while honoring them.

  • How to use specific verbal and nonverbal patterns to gather information gracefully, and change limiting beliefs and attitudes.

Method of Conducting the Session:

Short videotaped examples of Virginia's work will be used to illustrate specific elements and patterns, as a basis for discussion, questions, and live demonstration.
