Satir and Spirituality

Presentation Description: 

How we approach our spirituality has been influenced and formed by family, church and cultural systems. The Satir Growth Model at its core is a spiritual view of people and life itself. We will explore Virginia’s teaching as a spiritual vision of the inner journey. Ekman will bring his experience as Spiritual Director of Tao Fong Shan Christian Centre in Hong Kong. Maureen will bring her years using The Satir Growth Model combined with 12-step programs to explore this transformative approach to the therapeutic process.

 

Objectives:

  • Participants will work with Virginia's Change Process from a spiritual perspective.

  • Participants will examine how their views of spirituality were developed, as well as those of their clients.

  • Participants will gain an appreciation for Virginia's humanistic spirituality in relation to other types of spirituality.

Method of Conducting the Session:

Didactic information with experiential exercises to explore the spiritual inner journey. Participants will be given time to ask questions concerning their experiences and challenges.

Presenters:

Maureen Graves has worked for 31 years in the field of addictions and traumas. She was co-founder and Co-Director of New Hope Alcoholism and Addiction Center. She is in private practice as a relationship and self esteem consultant. Maureen began training with Virginia Satir in 1978. She is a Certified Motivational Coach, certified in hypnosis and a Reike Master (Healing Touch).

 

Ekman P.C. Tam a registered Counseling Psychologist of Hong Kong Psychological Society and a Clinical Member of American Association of Family and Marital Therapy, is Director of Tao Fong Shan Christian Centre. He leads workshops for medical professionals on Caring for Self & Caring for Others. He authored two books in English (including A Psycho-spiritual Approach to Spiritual Direction Based on Satir Model of Therapy) and three in Chinese.
